…to the project page of ‘DIY-Helsinki’!
Here, you can learn more about how grassroot initiatives and sustainability intertwine and how people have the power to find solutions to issues they perceive in their surroundings in a do-it-yourself (DIY) manner.
This page is the outcome of the course “DIY-sustainability. Ethnographic approaches to urban activism”, taught at the University of Helsinki in autumn 2020. The main objective was to do individual, small-scale studies on local grassroot initiatives that work for a (sustainable) change in Helsinki.
By presenting the results of these studies, this page intends not only to inform about those grassroot projects, but to inspire everyone to become active themselves and try to make a difference in the society and city they live in.
